Wii Fit to run $90 in America

Story Courtesy of 1up.com
Back in the day, when a company wanted to sell you a workout product, the marketers would just trot out Tony Little or Kathy Ireland to grin and talk excitedly about how it’s the only home fitness machine you’ll ever need. Nowadays, we have to rely on the good old fashioned method of picking a market-appropriate price point.
Confirming rumors from last month, Nintendo confirmed today that the North American release of Wii Fit will launch for $89.99 on May 19th. In addition, if you happen to pre-order from the Nintendo World Store in New York City between April 18-20 (and be one of the first 1000 to do so), you’ll get a Wii Fit t-shirt with a (reproduced) autograph from Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto.
What’s the verdict on the price point, 1UP readers? We have brand new impressions of the game if you need a bit more insight on what to expect from the potential Wii blockbuster.

I think this sounds a bit pricey to me. I was thinking perhaps $70 would have been a better price. I think Nintendo might be overestimating this game’s popularity in America … paying $90 for a guitar game/controller makes a lot more sense than paying $90 for a balance board game.

$90 for this isn’t really a big deal for me because that’s what it costs here in Japan, and it seemed about right.
Apparently the program is super-effective. I know a guy that’s been doing it for a while now and he’s really slimmed down. I think the key is that if you screw up in the game, there’s an instructor that tells you to do it the right way…or else. Also, it keeps track of your progress, so if you slack, you’ll see it in your history. I read a little editorial about it in Famitsu, and they think that that’s the reason why it’s so effective. It holds you responsible for everything and kicks you in the butt when you need it.

Is there a weight limit on it. I know that I am around 260, and I am not going to spend that much money on something that I would have to lose weight to use…just seems to defeat the purpose.

If I’m not mistaken, the weight limit on it is 300 lbs. I can’t say for sure, but I remember hearing that somewhere. I oughta look into that one for ya.

Is this for real? I can’t quite believe that Wil. I mean don’t get me wrong, I WANT to believe it, but it seems too good to be true.
Captain Marriage will be back this week (hopefully) so we can hear about all the excitement of being a real-life Al Bundy.
Oh and about this week’s show…and why it doesn’t exist. I know this isn’t really the place to put it, but I realized that just me talking to myself for 20 minutes or so was going to really bore everyone more than normal. I mean normally I’ve got people to throw in comments during my epic rants, but unleashed Chad is about as good as those Girls Gone Wild videos. You think it’s gonna be great, but it’s just underwhelming and some dude going up to different girls and saying…
“C’mon, take off your top babe…”
Well, most of that’s true, maybe not so much the last part. I really oughta stop now. This week’s show is gonna be good though LOTS to talk about.
Catch ya later.
